Hi, I’m Mia.

I tell stories––on stages and pages, with words and images.

My comics and journalism have appeared in The Boston Globe, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and The Forward, for which I write a graphic column.

I’m also junior at Yale, studying humanities. I design stage projections, compose music, dance with the Yale Ballet Company, and just retired from the managing boards of the Yale Daily News and The New Journal.

About

I grew up in San Francisco and Toronto, went to high school in Michigan, and now live in Cape Cod, MA. To understand these strange new worlds, I asked questions. To find common ground, I told stories. With these two loves, of questions and stories, I’ve crossed boundaries of artistic disciplines.

My short stories and poetry have been awarded by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (2023) and Canadian Independent Schools Incite Writing Competition (2020-2022). In 2021 the Global Videos for Change competition, my short film, “Promises, Promises...” won Best Senior Video and was screened at COP 26 in Glasgow.

In dance and theater, I trained with Canada’s National Ballet School, American Conservatory Theater, and Interlochen Arts Camp. In high school, I studied Jazz and Classical Trumpet at Interlochen Arts Academy, and, in the summers, songwriting at Berklee College of Music. A story is a story, on the page or stage!

These days, I perform with the Yale Ballet Company, Yale Jazz Ensemble and Yale Undergraduate Chamber Orchestra.  At The New Journal, voted best student magazine by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2021, I am the Executive Editor.  At the Yale Daily News, I edit illustrations and report on climate change and art.

Thank you for looking at my work.

On Stories

In a world starved for attention, how can artists ask for more? Do stories fracture or unite us?
